about

Kami:

Web is the first song I wrote that managed to capture all of my feelings exactly the way I experienced them. It’s the most real song to me yet. I wrote it while at university, where I found myself in a constant cycle of scrolling on the internet for clothes, talking to my boyfriend, eating, and sleeping. All of which I was doing in my tiny flat at the time. And while that’s not much to complain about, I just felt a bit trapped in this lifestyle and needed somewhere to escape to. Writing this song was a way of me putting all those sad feelings into one safe space. It was never written with the intention of us recording or performing it as it was so personal to me. Every song I write normally has at least one made up component, or starts from a true feeling that then leads onto a made up story. So being able to finally put my real feelings into this one song felt frightening.

I remember playing it to Zak for the first time in the studio while we were recording vocals for other songs. I was very slightly terrified... but he ended up loving it and said let’s record the guitar right now! So we did. And that is the guitar part you hear in the track now. I then recorded the vocals at home during one of the many lockdowns we had. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them from the start so that ended up being a very enjoyable process for me. Zak took it all and added all these cool effects onto it which I didn’t expect but my god it made the song feel even more intimate and personal, it sends shivers down my spine with every listen.

Now whenever I feel unhappy or down Web is my go to song to play and it really helps me deal with my emotions. I think everyone needs a song like that.

lyrics

Why did you?
Lay your body on the edge,
Where the cracks take you in deeper,
Until the sun no longer shines,
Upon your forehead that I always kiss.

Mmhmm.

I need a little more time here,
Until I’m ready to get up,
I know you’re gonna call and I’ll still be here,
In bed the same way that you left me.

I’ve been, searching all along yeah,
I’ve been, searching all along babe,
I’ve been, searching all along the web,

I’ve been, searching all along yeah,
I’ve been, searching all along babe,
I’ve been, searching all along the web,

For something I can feel alive in.

Honey, I’ve been waiting here all day,
For just a “hi babe how’s your day been?”
You might not want to fall into a rant,
About your day and where you’ve been.

I’ve been, searching all along yeah,
I’ve been, searching all along babe,
I’ve been, searching all along the web,

I’ve been, searching all along yeah,
I’ve been, searching all along babe,
I’ve been, searching all along the web,

For something I can feel alive in.
